A Deep Dive into Pools; Illustrating common engineering principles through an examination of pool and natatorium systems.

Where: Clackamas Community College Harmony Campus, followed by a tour of North Clackamas Aquatic Park

When:  June 7th, 2019 8:00am - 2:00pm

Address: 7738 SE Harmony Road, Milwaukie, Oregon 97222

Topic: A Deep Dive into Pools; Illustrating common engineering principles that many encounter on a daily basis (regardless of whether they work directly with pools) through an examination of pool and natatorium systems, with a tour of North Clackamas Aquatic Center to follow.

Swimming pools cannot be overlooked when it comes to energy efficiency opportunities, considering that pools are one of the most energy intensive systems found in commercial buildings. New technologies and design practices have been shown to cut operational costs by 15-50%, while improving the indoor air quality and system performance – a win for occupants, facilities managers and energy professionals alike.

During this forum, we will take a look at the fascinating world of pools and natatoriums. (A natatorium is simply the building which houses a pool.) Pools and natatoriums require a number of different air and water systems to operate correctly and these systems interact with each other in complex and interesting ways. Our speakers will use the example of a pool system to illustrate common engineering principles and discuss equipment technology that many of us encounter on a daily basis both inside and outside of pool applications.

Our speakers will cover the following topics:

  • Air side HVAC

  • Humidity and how to deal with it

  • Opportunities for energy efficiency upgrades

  • Heat Recovery

  • Water heating, boilers and pumps

  • Solar Thermal Water Heating

Although, much of what will be discussed has a specific focus on aquatics, the presentations will also be relevant to those of us managing all types of air and hydronic systems, as well as other water features.

Current Confirmed Speakers include:

  • Rich Davis - Natatorium Expert, Senior Project Manager – Willdan Performance Engineering

  • Jeff Farlow, Program Manager of Energy Initiatives, Aquatic Systems & Nathan Hornback, NW Regional Sales Manager - Pentair, Pool and Spa Solutions

  • Brent Gunderson, Solar Thermal Water Heating Installer – Gen-Con Inc.

Registration:

Members $50, non-members $90, $350 for vendors, $25 student member, with current student ID, $45 non-member student, with current student ID.
